Cyprinidae Balantiocheilos ambusticauda Ng & Kottelat, 2007 Fr native  Pla hang mai (Thai), Burnt tail fish (English)  10.51 cm SL male/unsexed  Type locality, Nakhon Sawan province, Bung Borapet, MHNG 2689.096 (holotype of Balantiocheilos ambusticauda, 10.51cm SL) (Ref. 58339). This species is considered endemic to the Mae Khlong and Chao Phraya basins. Its assessment in 2011 was also based on surveys done over the last 15 years throughout its confirmed range but no individual was recorded. The last specimen was found in 1974 that the species may already be extinct. Reasons for population decline were overfshing for international aquarium trade, habitat loss due to developnents of infrastructures anad possibly deterioration in water quality due to pollution caused by agro-chemicals. For these reasons the species is listed as Critically Endangered with a assumed population of less than 50 mature individuals. Further survey is still recommended and records from the Mekong basin should be further investigated (Ref. 117908).  No picture yet.
