Specimens collected in the 1989 survey from the lake (46 individuals) and from Manguao stream (3), about 2 km NW of the lake were not spearated into the two species (bantolanensis and manguaoensis)(Ref. 13489). Study conducted in 2003 showed that P. manguaoensis occupies the littoral zone while P. bantolanensis occupies the open water zone (Ref. 50862). 
Cyprinidae Barbodes baoulan Herre, 1926 Fr, Fi, Thr endemic  Baolan (Maranao/Samal/Tao Sug), Baoulan (Maranao/Samal/Tao Sug) scarce (very unlikely) 10.80 cm SL male/unsexed  Described from nine ripe female specimens, 8.8 - 10.8 cm, from Lake Lanao, Mindanao. The most highly prized cyprinid, used for food by the Maranaos. Caught only during the colder months and apparently the rarest and most difficult to catch (Ref. 2855). Still caught in the lake in 1963-64 (Ref. 10885). In the 1990-91 survey, only two (2) kilograms of this species was recorded; caught with gill nets along with the other species (Ref. 13448). No specimen was caught during the 2008 survey (Ref. 95183). Usually found in the littoral areas, with heavy aquatic vegetation (Ref. 13448). Also Ref. 13446, 70969, 94476.

Collected by Herre from Lake Buluan and in a creek at Kidapauan, Cotabato; Balangkott Creek, near Linabo, Malupali R. at Mailag, Tagualmay creek, Bukidnon; Titunod R. near Kolambugan, Lanao; and Busay R. and Balactasan R., Basilan (Ref. 280). Also from Cagayan R. at Cagayan de Misamis; Talacogon, Agusan R.; and Malum R., Tawitawi. Synonyms Barbodes ivis and B. quinquemaculatus, were described from specimens caught from Balabac, Malampaya Sound and Paracan, Palawan: Concepcion and Langbuan, Busuanga, and from Zamboanga, respectively. It is uncertain that this species is native or introduced in Lake Lanao. Please refer to Herre 1933 (Ref. 116482) and Kornfield and Carpenter 1984 (Ref. 5950) for explanation of its distribution in the Philippines and status in Lake Lanao.

Described from the type specimen, 23.5 cm TL, and three other cotypes (11.6 - 13.7 cm) taken from Dansalan, Lake Lanao in 1921. Specimens collected by J. Clemens in 1907 were also examined (Ref. 2929, 81520). No specimen was caught during the 1994 expedition (Ref. 10888) and 2008 survey (Ref. 95183). Also Ref. 13446, 70969, 94476.

Cyprinidae Barbodes hemictenus Jordan & Richardson, 1908 Fr endemic  Pait (Tagalog)  10.00 cm TL male/unsexed  Specimens, 2.5 - 10 cm, were collected in Sabaan River, near Lake Naujan, Mindoro (Ref. 13446); also from Mamboc River, a tributary of Lake Naujan and from its type locality, the Baco River on the north east coast of Mindoro (Ref. 2929). Also reported from streams flowing into Mangarin Bay, Mindoro (Ref. 280). Reported from Taal Lake (Ref. 13446, 80679). It is either a valid species or a geographical race of P. binotatus (Ref. 2091).  No picture yet.

Described specimens were collected from the type locality, Dansalan, Lake Lanao, Mindanao (1921). Once caught in enormous quantities using fine-meshed gill nets among pond weeds of shallow bays of the lake (Ref. 2929). Still caught in the lake from 1963 to 1964 (Ref. 10885). Still present in a 1982 survey (Ref. 12758), 1973-77, 1982-83, 1990-91 and 2008 surveys (Ref. 95183). No specimen was caught during the 1994 expedition (Ref. 10888). Also Refs. 3881, 13446, 70969, 94476.

The longest and bulkiest carp of the lake, but not especially prized for food. Caught with gill nets (Ref. 2929). Still caught in the lake from 1963 to 1964 (Ref. 10885). No specimen was caught during the 1994 expedition (Ref. 10888) and 1975-76, 1982-83, 1990-91 and 2008 surveys (Ref. 95183). Also Ref. 280, 3881, 13446, 70969, 94476.

Specimens collected in the 1989 survey from the lake (46 individuals) and from Manguao stream (3), about 2 km NW of the lake were not spearated into the two species (bantolanensis and manguaoensis) (Ref. 13489). Study conducted in 2003 showed that P. manguaoensis occupies the littoral zone while P. bantolanensis occupies the open water zone (Ref. 50862).

Cyprinidae Barbodes palaemophagus (Herre, 1924) Fr endemic  Bitungu (Maranao/Samal/Tao Sug)  12.80 cm TL male/unsexed  Described from the type and single specimen, 12.8 cm TL, collected by Herre at Lumbatan, a town on the south shore of Lake Lanao, Mindanao (Ref. 2929). Reported from 1986 survey by Mercene (Ref. 13446). No specimen was caught during the 1994 expedition (Ref. 10888) and 1976, 1977, 1982-83, 1990-91 and 2008 surveys (Ref. 95183). Also Ref. 280, 70969, 94476.  No picture yet.
Cyprinidae Barbodes palata Herre, 1924 Fr, Fi endemic  Kandar (Maranao/Samal/Tao Sug), Manobud (Maranao/Samal/Tao Sug), Palata (Maranao/Samal/Tao Sug)  14.00 cm TL male/unsexed  Described from ten type specimens, 9.7 - 11.2 cm, collected from Dansalan, Lake Lanao, Mindanao (Ref. 2929). Still present in a 1982 survey (Ref. 12758). Also Ref. 3881, 70969. Reported from 1986 survey by Mercene (Ref. 13446)
