Etymology: Schismatogobius: Greek, schisma, -atos = crack, fissure + latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335); baitabag: Named after Baitabag village, by the Nagada River, the type locality and as thanks to the Baitabag village men and many small children who cheerfully helped H.K. Larson collect the holotype and many other interesting fishes (H.K. Larson regrets not recording their names). A noun in apposition.

الأشواك الظهرية (المجموع): 7; الأشعة الظهرية الناعمة (المجموع): 9; شوكة شرجية 1; أشعه شرجية لينه: 9. Schismatogobius baitabag is distinguished by the following charactersL pectoral fin usually with 15 rays; pectoral flns banded with rows of dark spots; membrane in first dorsal fln posterior to spine 6 partly connected to base of spine of second dorsal fin; male with ventral surface of head, frenum, and pelvic disk yellowish, with black mentum and lower lips; and female with ventral surface of head, frenum and pelvic disk yellowish, with dark mentum (Ref. 116768).
Found in streams with moderate to fast flow in shallow areas of gravel. The holotype was collected from a bend in the Nagada River in a valley, with slow to moderate flow over sand, gravel, smooth rocks and boulders, with some leaf litter and logs (Ref. 116768).
