Etymology: Platyberyx: Name from the Greek 'platy' meaning flat and Beryx, a genus of beryciform fishes.;  andriashevi: Named for Anatolii Petrovich Andriashev (1910-2009), a well known Russian ichthyologist, a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the former Soviet Union..

Kurzbeschreibung Morphologie | Morphometrie

Rückenflossenweichstrahlen (insgesamt): 31-35; Afterflossenweichstrahlen: 20 - 22; Wirbelzahl: 36 - 39. This species is distinguished by the following characters: vertebrae 14-16 + 22-24 = 36-39; dorsal-fin rays 31-35; anal-fin rays 20-22; further distinguished from all congeners, except P. paucus and P. pietschi, by having laterally flattened, bladelike ventral procurrent caudal rays, and an anteriorly directed hook-like process on the third posteriormost ventral procurrent caudal ray (Ref. 94277).
