Etymology: Rocio: Named for the author's wife. In Spanish, the name means morning dew, in allusion to the resplendent spots on cheek and sides of some species, R. gemmata.;  ocotal: Named for the lake where the species lives (the Spanish word 'ocota' meaning 'an ocote forest', 'ocote' being a species of Pinus); noun in apposition..

Short description Morfología | Morfometría

Espinas dorsales (total): 18 - 19; Radios blandos dorsales (total): 9-10; Espinas anales 8-9; Radios blandos anales: 6 - 9. This species is characterized by the following: abdomen reddish (vs. whitish-grayish) in life; pelvic fins often fall short of anal-fin origin (vs. usually reaching caudad beyond first or second anal-fin spine); no lingual cusp in lower symphysial teeth (vs. usually present); isolated secondary pores (in addition to the pored scales on the extended caudal fin) present (vs. absent or sporadic); no spots on scales on side of body (vs. present); 4 or 5 dentary pores (vs. always 4) (Ref. 74403).
