Etymology: Episemion: Greek, epi = over, in front + Gree, semeion, -ou = mark, signal (Ref. 45335);  krystallinoron: Named after the Monts de Cristal, to which it is endemic (Ref. 57728).

Description synthétique Morphologie | Morphométrie

Épines dorsales (Total): 0; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 11-12; Épines anales 0; Rayons mous anaux: 14 - 16. Scales are cycloid: body and head are entirely scaled, except on ventral surface of head; frontal squamation is of G-type; scales on mid-longitudinal series 27-29 + 2-3 on caudal base (Ref. 57728). Episemion krystallinoron has a unique combination of male color characters: the dorsolateral body color of adult males is metallic blue-green, they have three or four more or less regular horizontal rows of red dots onn sides of body, beginning just behind head, and the unpaired fins contain blue to blue-green dots (Ref. 57728).

Occurs in fast flowing rivers of 4-5 m wide and 0.80-1 m deep; sandy bottoms and no aquatic vegetation; found amongst overhanging terrestrial vegetation (Ref. 57728).
