Inhabits artesian springs and associated swampy areas over a wide range of temperatures (13°-36°C). At one spring it was found in temperatures ranging from 21.6°-35.6°C, although it was most abundant in the cooler, downstream sections. Feeds on filamentous green algae, snails and fishes. Co-occurs with 5 other species at Dalhousie springs including Neosilurus gloveri (Plotosidae), Craterocephalus dalhousiensis and C. gloveri (Atherinidae), Leiopotherapon unicolor (Terapontidae) and Chlamydogobius gloveri (Gobiidae) (Ref. 44894).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01023 (0.00391 - 0.02676), b=3.02 (2.79 - 3.25), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.4   ±0.5 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Widerstandsfähigkeit (Ref. 120179):  hoch, Verdopplung der Population dauert weniger als 15 Monate. (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
