Biologia     Glossario (es. epibenthic)

Found in inlets and backwaters of rivers and streams. Forages mostly at twilight, stalking larger fishes to feed on their scales. Approaches its intended prey stealthily and usually aims at its flank. Strikes mostly with its mouth closed, dislodging the scales with its stout, external and forward-directed teeth. The jarring strike dislodges a few scales which are swallowed immediately if taken in the mouth, or gathered as they sink. Also feeds on aquatic insects (Ref. 40383).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01000 (0.00415 - 0.02411), b=3.08 (2.87 - 3.29), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.3   ±0.46 se; based on food items.
Resilienza (Ref. 120179):  Alto, tempo minimo di raddoppiamento della popolazione meno di 15 mesi (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
