Freshwater; benthopelagic. Tropical; 24°C - 26°C (Ref. 2059); 3°S - 9°S
Africa: Widespread in Lake Tanganyika. Also found in the Rusisi and Lukuga rivers.

Semi-pelagic roamers and drifting plankton pickers which occur over sandy bottoms in schools of several hundred fish (Ref. 6770). Females brood their young in the mouth (Ref. 86760).
