| Myoseptal pigment above gut; pigment over notochord after 5.5 mm, up to 8-11 predorsal melanophores by transformation; pigment ventrally on tail beginning at postanal myomere 0-1(usually 1) and on lower caudal fin rays; 7 ceratobranchial gill rakers (by 10-11 mm). Pigmentation: Flexion-transformation: 1-2 pairs along sides of gut anteriorly; pair at cleithral symphysis; over gas bladder; over end of hindgut; 7-12 on myosepta above gut anteriorly, increasing to 10-12; 9-11 internally, ventrally along tail; externally on anal fin ray bases; on parhypural; 1 at center of hypural margin; on lower caudal fin rays; on upper caudal fin rays after about 12 mm; over notochord tip in flexion larvae; over notochord beginning posteriorly, extending anteriorly to 8-11 melanophores past dorsal fin origin by about 16.5 mm; on head in transformation specimens.
