Total vertebrae 38-39; pectoral fin rays 12-13; anal fin rays 8-9; pigment pattern on dorsal and anal finfolds; pigment absent near end of caudal fin; pigment present dorsally on head and on pectoral fin base; parietals rounded; notochord flexion by about 7 mm. Pigmentation: Preflexion: Dorsolaterally on head, isthmus, gut, and most of trunk; absent above gut and at end of tail; 4 triangular-shaped patches on the dorsal finfold and 3 similar patches on anal finfold. Flexion: On upper and lower jaws, hyoid, opercular and branchiostegal regions; spreading into region above gut. Postflexion: Uniformly covering most of body except posterior opercular region; absent from caudal fin; patch at mid first dorsal fin, anteriorly and posteriorly on second dorsal fin and anal fin and a patch dorsally and ventrally on the finfold in the caudal peduncle region. Juvenile: On caudal fin, 2 bars on pelvic fin, about 7 lateral bars on body. Sequence of fin development: pectoral fin, second dorsal fin and anal fin and caudal fin, first dorsal fin, pelvic fin.
