Snout terminal; jaws are equal in length and not protruding. Chin barbels absent. Pectoral fin rays 17, not reaching the dorsal fin origin and have not enlarged yet as 'wings'. A single unpigmented dorsal fin located posteriorly has 9 rays. Large pelvic fins located in the abdomen area reach as far as the anal fin origin.Vent is located behind the middle of the body. Anal fin origin is below the 3rd dorsal ray. Caudal fin truncate and rounded, ventral lobe developing. No lateral line visible at this stage. Pigmentation: Larva is yellowish-brown. Stellate pigment occurs densely throughout the entire body.
