In preflexion-flexion larvae, pigment on lip and angle of lower jaw, internal pigment behind eye absent, 2 pigment patches on dorsal body margin; in postflexion larvae, 3 pigment patches on dorsal body margin; in transformation-juvenile specimens, 7 peritoneal pigment patches, 41-45 precaudal vertebrae, and anus well anterior to a vertical through the dorsal fin origin. Pigmentation: Preflexion: tip of jaw, two dorsal and one ventral midline spot; peritoneal patches increase during development to about seven. Flexion: on fore- and midbrain; 3 patches on dorsal body margin and 2 rows in the lateral caudal peduncle region; by about 20 mm, 2 patches on ventral body margin and 6 peritoneal patches. Postflexion: on anterior rays of anal fin and dorsal fin; crescent-shaped row on infraorbital region. Transformation-juvenile: rows on upper and lower jaws; on caudal fin and pectoral fin rays; scattered on dorsal body; 7 peritoneal patches. Sequence of fin development: caudal, anal, dorsal, pectorals, pelvics, adipose.
