Larvae live near the surface & feed after 3 days on phyto- and zooplankton. Matamorphosis occurs after about 20 days when fry form schools of thousands (Popper et al. 1979); these live in very shallow water, feeding on epiphytic algae on Halophylla leaves and then migrate in deeper waters (4-10 m) upon reaching 2-3 g (Popper & Gunderman 1975). |
