Hatching occurs 23 hours after fertilization. Oil globule of just hatched larvae protruded distinctly beyond the anterior margin of the yolk. A character differentiating it from other lutjanid larvae where the oil globule only slightly protudes or only situated very near the anterior margin of the yolk (Ref. 37498). Another difference from lutjanid larvae is the presence of well-defined dendritic melanophores posterior to the auditory vesicle (Ref. 37498).
