Body long and slender, with vent under dorsal fin; mouth large, terminal, extends to middle of eye, becomes subterminal; gut with muscle-band striations posteriorly; little pigment; overlapping dorsal and anal fins. At 12 mm, dorsal (15-16), anal (23-31). Posterior region of gut convoluted at 5.0 mm; Body depth increasing with increase in length - 12 times in body at 16 mm, 9 times at 20 mm. At about 20.0 mm (juvenile stage), chromatophores from origin of anal fin to the base, ventrally between operculum and ventral fins (Ref. 40860). Sequence of fin formation: caudal, dorsal, and anal; pectoral; pelvic. |
