Mozarabic, bagre, taken from Greek, pagros = a fish (Dentex sp.) (Ref. 45335).
  Etymology of specific epithet  
Referring to the general generic name Schilbe; this nominal species was originally described as a Bagrus-species (Bagrus is derived from the Spanish "Bagre", which means fish) with some characters of the genus Schilbe (Ref. 43912).
