Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 10-12
Biology:  Inhabits large rivers as well as small tributaries. Prefers well-vegetated stream margins with soft mud bottom. Feeds on insects, crustaceans and fishes (Ref. 5259, 44894). Aquarium conditions: pH=7.2, H=10, 26°C water temperature, carnivore, egg layer, needs plant and rock cover, not easy for beginning aquarists (Ref. 6398).

Country info:  Known from the tip of Cape York Peninsula (Queensland) in the Jardine river and along the eastern coast of the Peninsula southward to the Murray river (Qld). Has been collected from the following river systems: Jardine, Pascoe, Mulgrave, Russell and Murray (Ref. 44894).
