Max. size:  19 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 7; dH range: 10 - 20
Distribution:  Central America: Atlantic slope of Mexico and Guatemala (Usumacinta, Sarstun and Dulce River basins).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs only in fast moving water of the rocky upper river valleys. Feeds on aufwuchs, from which it gets nourishment from algae and invertebrates.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 01 March 2018 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Found in the upper reaches of the Lago Izabal basin in the Rio Polochic and the Rio Dulce and their tributareis. Recorded from the Rio Cienega. Also Ref. 42936.
