Max. size:  22 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish; marine, amphidromous
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: India to Australia and Taiwan (Ref. 7050). Also found in Japan and China (Ref. 559).
Diagnosis:  Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 8-10; Vertebrae: 26-27
Biology:  Inhabits inshore waters, sometimes entering fresh water (Ref. 9671). Feeds on crustaceans and small fishes. Marketed fresh (Ref. 12693).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  An inshore fish, sometimes enters fresh water. Usually found in the estuaries of rivers in southeast China (Ref. 26563). Introduced from its native range to other regions in the country for intensive culture in ponds (Ref. 55380). Also Ref. 9671.
