Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  22 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; depth range 7 - 61 m
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic and widespread in Lake Malawi.
Diagnosis:  Diagnosis: easily identifiable by its elongate shape, continuous mid-lateral stripe on the body and the dark stripe across the snout (Ref. 55954).
Biology:  Found over sandy and rocky bottoms all over the lake. Feeds on juvenile cichlids and invertebrates (Ref. 5595).
