Family:  Paralepididae (Barracudinas)
Max. size:  5.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 18 - 330 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: Agulhas Current off South Africa, Indonesia (Ref. 5978), Australia (Ref. 7300), and New Zealand (Ref. 5755).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 35-38
Biology:  Epipelagic to mesopelagic (Ref. 4056, 58302). Juveniles are pale and transparent when fresh.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 12 August 2019 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
