Environment:  reef-associated; freshwater
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Saudi Arabia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-10; Anal soft rays: 7-9. This species is distinguished from all its congeners by the following: with the lowest number of dorsal-fin rays 9-10 (vs. 13-21 in congeners), and with the lowest number of anal-fin rays 7-9 (vs. 10-18 other species); with small premaxillary teeth; gas bladder is not prominent; females bear a series of 30 rectangular eggs in a single row (Ref. 129304).
