| Diagnosis: | Dorsal soft rays (total): 75-75; Anal soft rays: 71-71; Vertebrae: 55-55. This genus is distinguished by the following characters: with a ventral light organ; differs from all other genera in the family by having a genital papilla separated from anus by several small scales, a large pelvic fin with all rays elongated; snout broad and rounded, not shelf-like; palatines and vomer toothless; swimbladder with elongate projections that attached to openings at rear of the skull; pelvic-fin rays 7; first dorsal fin short-based, with 8 rays; second dorsal and anal fins long-based, with margins not indented (Ref. 121621). | |||
