Family:  Microdesmidae (Wormfishes), subfamily: Ptereleotrinae
Max. size:  12.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 5 - 50 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: southern Florida, Belize and eastern Gulf of Mexico in USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Burrows in open sand. Hovers over burrow (Ref. 9710).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 01 March 2010 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
