Family:  Retropinnidae (New Zealand smelts), subfamily: Prototroctinae
Max. size:  22 cm FL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; brackish, amphidromous
Distribution:  Oceania: endemic to New Zealand.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Now extinct (Ref. 57073). The last recorded specimen was brought to the British Museum in the 1930's (Ref. 57073).
IUCN Red List Status: Extinct (EX); Date assessed: 10 July 2014 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
