Max. size:  9 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 6 - 60 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: Indonesia, Philippines, Palau, Western Australia, Papua New Guinea, New Britain, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-14; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 14-15. Description: Plain grey with black on anal fin and yellowish posteriorly over back (Ref. 48636). Pectoral-fin base spot black large. Anal fin black. Body depth 2.0-2.1 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Adults inhabit lagoon and seaward reefs, also in sheltered clear water reefs in moderate depths (Ref. 48636). Feed on planktonic crustaceans, fish eggs, algae, and small invertebrates. Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205). Diurnal species (Ref. 113699).
