Distribution:  Africa: endemic to Lake Malawi, only known from Nkhotakota in Malawi (Ref. 55898).

Diagnosis: head length 38.8 %SL; body depth 36.4 %SL; 24 gill-rakers on lower limb; snout length 28.9 % head length; lower jaw length 43.0 % head length; 2/2 inner oral tooth rows; premaxillary pedicel length 31.9 % head length; relatively narrow interorbital, 41.7 % head length; lachrymal length 18.3 % head length; cheek depth 19.1 % head length; interorbital width 17.0 % head length; predorsal distance 41.3 %SL (Ref. 55898). Description: small species; snout pointed; mouth relatively large; gape inclined at about 20° to horizontal; maxilla extending well beyond vertical at anterior margin of eye; outer oral teeth small, tricuspid or shouldered bicuspid; inner oral teeth unicuspid; 2 series of scales on cheek; eye large; upper margin of eye touching dorsal head profile; lower pharyngeal jaw normal in shape; all pharyngeal teeth small, slender and densely packed; gill-rakers relatively long and slender (Ref. 55898). Coloration: Preserved: body pale yellowish; 6-7 very faint vertical bars below the dorsal fin; snout dark greyish; all fins pale yellow; dorsal fin with pale grey bands at base, white submarginal band and darker lappets (Ref. 55898).
