Family:  Heptapteridae (Three-barbeled catfishes)
Max. size:  15.4 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Central and South America: on the Atlantic drainage found from the Río Coclé de; Norte, Panama to the affluents of the Maracaibo drainage, Venezuela. On the Pacific drainage, extends from the Río Grande de Térraba, Costa Rica, to the Río San Juan, Colombia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits rivers and creeks located between 20 and 660 m elevation. Found in currents of moderate velocity on sand, gravel and rock substrata. Eats aquatic insects, especially Diptera larvae (Ref. 36880).
