Distribution:  South America: rio Canoas and its tributaries in Santa Catarina, Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 1-1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-7; Anal soft rays: 6-6. Absence of adipose fin; cleithral width 27.3-31.7% SL; presence of normally developed dermal plates on the dorsal surface of body; nuptial males with few and delicate hypertrophied odontodes on the lateral margin of head, usually hidden by extensive soft fleshy lobes (Ref. 42856).
