| Diagnosis: | Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11. Paracanthocobitis abutwebi is distinguished from all other congeners by the combination of the following characters: complete lateral line; absence of axillary pelvic lobe; alternating large and small dark spots along lateral line; pattern of dark specks on upper side between small dorsal saddles; 4-5 dark bands on cauda fin of adult; usually 11K dorsal-fin rays; and 13 pectoral-fin rays (Ref. 102002). | |||
