Environment:  pelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: interconnected lakes of the rio Tramandai drainage, southern Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 4-6; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-9; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 16-20; Vertebrae: 47-49. Scales in lateral series above lateral band 47-53; and predorsal scales 24-26 (Ref. 47314). Differs from O. bicudo and O. ledae by the following characters: thin fragile premaxilla, not projected anteriorly in its medialmost portion; ventral head profile usually split into two straight sections, forming an angle at the retroarticular joint; snout short, as long as wide in dorsal view; mouth slightly upturned in lateral view and positioned above a horizontal line crossing near the center of eye and above a horizontal line crossing near the middle of head depth (Ref. 47314).
Biology:  Occurs exclusively in freshwater (Ref. 47314).
