Family:  Distichodontidae (Distichodus)
Max. size:  6 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Okavango and Kafue system in southern Africa (Ref. 52193). Also in the lower (Ref. 42510, 41585), middle (Ref. 11970, 41590, 41591, 82705) and upper (Ref. 106245) Congo River basin. Reports from the upper Zambezi and some from the Kafue (Ref. 12524, 13337, 94654) are misidentifications of Nannocharax dageti (Ref. 95523).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 3-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-11; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 8-8
Biology:  Found in marginal vegetation of large rivers, in flowing water; picks small insects and other invertebrates from plant surfaces; pot sufficiently common for aquarium trade (Ref. 7248, 52193).
