Distribution:  Southeast Pacific: Mexico and Peru.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 9-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 27-31; Anal soft rays: 36-39. A large species with modal counts of 10 dorsal spines, 40 total dorsal fin supports, 37 segmented anal rays, 15 pectoral rays, two preopercular canal pores and 5 predorsal bones; upper lip fimbriae usually 9-10; eye diameter greater than preorbital length; lateral line interrupted or complete (Ref. 39697).
