Family:  Gobiidae (Gobies), subfamily: Gobiinae
Max. size:  10 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 36 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Puerto Rico and Venezuela to Santos, Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 6-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 16-18; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 16-20. Distinguished by the following characteristics: general body color is light grey-brown, typically have areas of very bright iridescent blue and/or yellow; body is laterally compressed; large, nearly vertical mouth; completely scaled body; first dorsal with VII spines; ventral fins are united (Ref. 92840).
Biology:  Found in mangrove areas over shallow mud-bottom (Ref. 91780). Survives in hyper-saline waters.
