Max. size:  13.96 cm SL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 153.0 g
Environment:  pelagic; freshwater; pH range: 5 - 7; dH range: 15
Distribution:  South America: Tapajós River basin in Brazil.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  In weedy side arms of the river; popular aquarium fish in the USA according to Ref. 1672, but might be a misidentification of M. hypsauchen. Needs better reference.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 20 October 2020 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
