Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  6.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Apalachicola (including upper Flint River), Choctawhatchee, Yellow and Escambia river drainages in western Georgia, southeastern Alabama and Florida, USA. Introduced into Old Town Creek (Tallapoosa River system), Bullock County in Alabama. Above Fall Line only in Apalachicola drainage.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits sand- and gravel-bottomed pools, sometimes runs, of headwaters, creeks and small rivers (Ref. 86798). Oviparous (Ref. 205).

Threat to humans:  harmless
