Max. size:  26 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; pH range: 7 - 8.5; dH range: 10 - 20
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to Lake Tanganyika where it is widely distributed.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Coastal species which occurs over sand more than rock. Juveniles inhabit shallow water mostly over sand in mud flats; adults inhabit deeper water and are especially abundant near the rocky slopes. Is omnivorous, but mainly vegetarian (feeds on phytoplankton, algae, and plants) (Ref. 6770).
