Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  13.1 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; depth range 35 - 100 m
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to the southern part of Lake Malawi, specially in the south-east arm.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs over soft bottoms which have thick layer of sedimentary diatoms. Feeds on diatoms (Ref. 5595, 54527). Dominant species in Malawian demersal trawl fishery.
