Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Labeoninae
Max. size:  78 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: widespread in the Congo River basin, Luapula and Mweru excluded (Ref. 2801, 26190).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-10; Vertebrae: 31-31
Biology:  Inhabits Lake Tanganyika and larger rivers (Ref. 4967) .Lives over mud bottoms close to sand banks. The adults are often captured over sandy bottoms in deep water (Ref. 26190).
