Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater, potamodromous
Distribution:  Asia: Western Ghats up to the Deccan in India.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits upper reaches of rivers (Ref. 41236). A prolific breeder and spawning commences on the onset of south-west monsoons (Ref. 4832). Suitable for aquaculture (Ref. 4832).
