Family:  Chiasmodontidae (Snaketooth fishes)
Max. size:  26 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range - 2500 m
Distribution:  Atlantic, Indian and Pacific: in tropical and subtropical waters. Known from relatively few scattered localities from the Gulf of Mexico to the eastern Pacific off Ecuador. Eastern Atlantic: known from four stations ca 24°N to 19°S, not known from the Benguela Current/Gulf of Guinea area.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 22-25; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 22-25
Biology:  Most adults were caught at depths exceeding 1,500 m (Ref. 6764).

Threat to humans:  harmless
