Family:  Sciaenidae (Drums or croakers)
Max. size:  13.7 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 25 - 110 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: along the coasts of China and Taiwan, from the Gulf of Pohai to Hainan.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 10-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 24-48; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 7-9; Vertebrae: 24-26. Snout blunt. Interorbital space wide (8.0-9.7% SL). Anal soft rays usually eight. High gill raker count (6-7 + 1 + 10-14). Scales on throat ctenoid.
Biology:  The most common species of Johnius (Johnius) in Chinese waters (Ref. 10101). Sandy-muddy bottoms and muddy bottoms from 25-110 m depth (Ref. 43239).
