Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Corinae
Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean: Mentawai Islands and off southwestern Thailand.
Diagnosis:  The male has a lined body pattern and the tail has numerous thin lines across. The female is almost identical to H. leucurus but has a white spot below the ocellus on the caudal fin base that is only shown in juveniles of H. leucurus, and yellowish lips (Ref. 48636).
Biology:  Occurs on rubble-algae reef flats and in seagrass habitats. Very similar to H. leucurus and at some stage was thought to be the same (Ref. 48636).

Threat to humans:  harmless
