Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 41 - 110 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Sea of Okhotsk and the northern Kuril Islands.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 88-91; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 70-75; Vertebrae: 88-94. Gymnelus soldatovi belongs to the group of species with a complete supratemporal commissure. It is further characterized by a high number of vertebrae, cylindrical body, relatively wide head, big snout and small gill opening, wide pectoral fin, and small size (Ref. 36338).
