Distribution:  South America: Atlantic coastal drainages of the Guianas, from Nickerie to Oyapock River basins.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  The most ubiquitous, frequently occurring and abundant species of this genus. Occurs in all kinds of streams where the substrate is rocky and the water is flowing (Ref. 35381). Found in great numbers in zones of plunging waters (Ref. 27188). May be found together with Lithoxus in little forest creeks as well as in rapids (Ref. 35381).
