Distribution:  Africa: endemic to Lake Malawi; widespread.
Diagnosis:  Description: long snout (Ref. 55954). Coloration: characteristic melanin pattern; three series of dark spots on the body: one mid-lateral, one dorso-lateral and one dorso-medial (Ref. 55954).
Biology:  Occurs frequently over sand in shallow areas off sandy beaches and feeds on invertebrates like insect larvae and small crustaceans (Ref. 5595).
