Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Myctophinae
Max. size:  9.3 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Southeast Atlantic: between 8°S and 23°S, but absent from the Benguela Upwelling Region; extends to Agulhas Water pockets further south. Southwest Atlantic: between 28°S and the Subtropical Convergence. Indian and Pacific: generally between 20°S and the Subtropical Convergence, but from 9°S in the eastern Indian Ocean.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 20-22
Biology:  Oceanic, mesopelagic (Ref. 4479, 75154). Nyctoepipelagic at the surface (Ref. 4479). Reach sexual maturity at 7,4 cm (Ref. 47377).
