Diagnosis: | Dorsal spines (total): 17-19; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-11; Anal spines: 8-10; Anal soft rays: 7-9. This species is characterized by the following: adults with a wine-colored abdomen in life; bars on sides of body with alternating intensity, the second one is much lighter than first and third; arms of first epibranchial bone are divergent (vs. parallel); supraoccipital crest undulating (vs. straight); ventral angle of articular obtuse (vs. right-angled); absence of an anteriorly directed pronounced convexity on ventral process of articular (vs. present); procurrent rays of caudal fin 2 (vs. 3-4) (Ref. 74403). | |||
