Family:  Tripterygiidae (Triplefin blennies), subfamily: Tripterygiinae
Max. size:  8 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 5 - 30 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean and Southeast Atlantic: Sodwana Bay to False Bay in South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 18-19; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-11; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 21-22. Body with russet and brow blotches (Ref. 5497).
Biology:  Eggs are hemispherical and covered with numerous sticky threads that anchor them in the algae on the nesting sites (Ref. 240). Larvae are planktonic which occur primarily in shallow, nearshore waters (Ref. 94114).
